The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane houses and treats well over 200 patients and are provided with all of the care and support they need. Some of our patients are well known in Gotham's criminal underworld, but we believe, with the help of our staff, that we can help to make them productive and useful members of society.
The Joker is arguably the most feared and influential criminal in Gotham City. His crimes are without motive and are not pertaining to one style of crime. The one thing that seems to be consistent with The Joker's crimes is they are all targeted to the masked criminal vigilante known as The Batman. His mental state is completely unstable and shows many forms of schizophrenia, ASPD, psychopathy, and many other mental illnesses. He is the most well known patient in Arkham Asylum. He is also very unpredictable, making the work that our staff preforms much harder. He will at one time be mischievous and funny, but at other times be violent, brutal, and cruel. There seems to be no cure for the Joker’s insanity, but we here at Arkham believe anyone can be cured and made into functioning, and peaceful members of society.
Doctor Harleen Quinzell, better known as Harley Quinn, was once a psychiatrist here at Arkham Asylum who worked with many patients, most notably The Joker. Her work with The Joker triggered a pre-existing mental illness in her. The Joker seduced her and convinced her to break him out of Arkham. She then took on the alias Harley Quinn and became The Joker's sidekick. She was apprehended by The Batman and began treatment as soon as she was admitted to Arkham. Quinn has one of the most complex minds that our doctors have ever worked on, but we are sure we can return her to sanity.
Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, is a cat burglar who grew up on the streets of Gotham, living a hard and nomadic life. This lifestyle caused Selina to become mentally unstable. She is known as one of the best thief's in Gotham City but also works as a vigilante at times with The Batman. Selina is obsessive about her thievery and is very manipulative. Bu like any person at Arkham Asylum, Ms. Kyle can be treaded and cured of her insanity.
Edward Nashton, who changed his name to Edward Nygma (E-Nygma) is one of Gotham' most dangerous criminals, The Riddler. His superior intellect and determination to prove his mental superiority make him one of our most challenging patients. Nygma is a master manipulator and tactician, who can work almost any situation to his advantage. His extreme case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and "God complex" are what drives his crimes. Nygma's main goal, however, is to prove that he is mentally superior to The Batman, who is known as "the worlds greatest detective." Our doctors have made great progress in curing Mr. Nygma of his obsession with The Batman, and we one day hope to return Edward to society once more.
Doctor Jonathan Crane, or The Scarecrow, was once a psychologist here at Arkham. Crane helped many patients over come certain fears, which may have lead to their illnesses. Crane than began experimenting with different serums to try and cure people of fear, which was done behind the backs of our staff and administration. Crane soon realized one of the serums induced extreme amounts of fear, and gave him the ability to control people using this "Fear Toxin" as he calls it. He left Arkham and began his career as a domestic terrorist to Gotham City. the Fear Toxin caused his mind to unhinge which is why he began this life of crime. Crane was later apprehended and brought to Arkham by The Batman, but not before the vigilant brutally broke both of his legs. Crane began treatment here soon after his legs healed, and has made some serious progress, with the help of our wonderful staff.
